Kato Rempel
Kato Rempel has always followed her curiosity and love for creativity wherever it leads.
Kato’s current work explores a contemporary approach to still life through abstraction. Beginning with small sketches, she constructs compositions that distill light and shadow into bold, simplified shapes. These studies evolve into cubist-inspired paintings, where familiar objects are reimagined through fractured planes and shifting perspectives. Drawing inspiration from Spanish Cubism and modern abstraction, her work balances structure with intuition, blending observational skill with imaginative interpretation.
Today, Kato continues to expand her visual language, pushing the boundaries of colour, form, and abstraction while remaining rooted in her lifelong curiosity.

Kato Rempel has always followed her curiosity and love for creativity wherever it leads.
Born in Vancouver, BC, she spent over a decade in digital graphic design. After 14 years in the industry, Kato decided to shake things up—packing her bags and moving with her family to Southeast Asia. Sri Lanka became her classroom, where she absorbed new cultures, art, and architecture. It was there that she fell in love with oil painting, a spark that quickly grew into a lasting passion.
Upon returning to Canada, Kato settled in Kelowna, BC, where she studied with influential artists including Kristy Gordon, Jerry Markham, and John Barry Raybould. Over the past decade, she has developed a strong presence in the Western Canadian art scene, building on a foundation of plein air and alla prima techniques to deepen her understanding of colour, light, and value.

In 2023, Kato took another leap—this time to Mexico—where she founded Allende Arts Space, an artist residency in San Miguel de Allende. There, she creates and fosters a space for artists to recharge, experiment, and connect across disciplines and cultures.
Today, as a Senior Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Kato continues to expand her visual language, pushing the boundaries of colour, form, and abstraction while remaining rooted in her lifelong curiosity.
