- Cindy Obuck
From an early age, Cindy Obuck was drawn to art, finding joy in creativity and visual expression long before she understood it as a lifelong calling. This early interest led her to pursue formal training in graphic design, where she earned a certificate and went on to work in a corporate environment.
With over 30 years of experience as a graphic designer, Cindy fully embraces the opportunity to return to her original passion, creating art that reflects both her personal journey and her evolving perspective. A self-taught artist whose work is characterized by a love of rich colour, layered texture, and semi-realistic subject matter, often balancing recognizable forms with expressive abstraction.
After years of working in fibre-based mediums, Cindy felt a shift in her creative direction and eventually stepped away from textiles in search of something new. This exploration led her to encaustics, a medium that immediately resonated with her. She spent time taking several workshops with international and local encaustic artists refining her skills. Encaustics tactile quality, depth, and luminosity opened up new possibilities, allowing Cindy to merge texture and colour in ways that feel both intuitive and dynamic.
Cindy works in her Regina studio surrounded by the living skies and colourful prairie fields. Her work can be found in private and corporate collections across Canada.
