Verne Busby

For most of his life, Verne Busby has lived and worked in Edmonton, Alberta.

In 1972, he received his BA then shortly after, in 1974, he received his Secondary Education Teaching Certificate from the University of Manitoba. He followed up in 1975, successfully obtaining his permanent British Columbia secondary teaching certificate. Returning to Edmonton, he continued to study design at Grant McEwan College Design Arts (1977) and at the University of Alberta.

In 1981, after several years of agency experience in the Edmonton area, Verne joined Bella Totino creating Totino Busby Design Inc., an independent design and illustration studio which attracted a wide array of clientele. Verne taught part time at the University of Alberta Faculty of Art and Design, Visual Communications and continues to host biweekly life drawing sessions at the Edmonton Wecan Society, Harcourt House Annex.

“My current paintings analyze forms and spaces, not from a traditional or prescribed point of view, but from an intuitive, visceral one. Internal and external landscapes play off each other becoming transitory images. My intent is to express, in paint, the illuminating and profoundly moving chaotic forces that provide an unlimited visual pageant.”
